Background and Context of the J-Agro: Extension

The Jigawa Agricultural Support Programme (J-Agro) is a comprehensive initiative by the Jigawa State Government aimed at transforming the agricultural landscape of the state. As part of His Excellency, Mallam Umar A. Namadi’s commitment to building a vibrant and sustainable agricultural sector, we are launching the J-Agro: Extension System Strengthening project. This project is designed to enhance the capacity of agricultural graduates and empower them to serve as  Extension Agents  to reduce farmer- extension ratio and enhance farmers access to agricultural extension ad advisory services across the State.  The programme seeks to recruit and train 1, 440 J-Agro: Extension Agents from across the 288 Wards of the State to improve the numerical strength and quality of the Agricultural Extension delivery to farmers.

Objective: Extension System Strengthening

The primary objective of the J-Agro: Extension System Strengthening project is to equip agricultural graduates with the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to play a pivotal role in extending modern agricultural practices to farmers across Jigawa State. By strengthening the extension system, we aim to bridge the gap between research, technology, and our hardworking farmers.

Post available:  1, 440 J-Agro Extension Agents will be recruited and trained across the 288 Wards of the State.

Eligibility

To be eligible for participation in the J-Agro: Extension System Strengthening project, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be a resident of any of the 288 political wards across Jigawa State.
• Hold a certificate, National Diploma (ND), Ordinary Diploma (OD), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), or Bachelor of Agriculture (B. Agric.) degree in agricultural or related disciplines.

Job Roles

 Selected candidates will serve as agricultural extension agents and will be responsible for the following:

• Disseminating modern good agricultural practices to farmers.
• Providing guidance on crop, livestock, aquaculture management.
• Promoting sustainable and eco-friendly climate smart farming practices.
• Collecting and reporting agricultural data and challenges.
• Facilitating marketing linkages between farmers and market actors.
• Facilitating farmers' access to government agricultural support programs.

 Interested and eligible candidates are required to submit their applications through the website of the Jigawa Empowerment and Employment Agency (JEEA) at https://www.yeea.jg.gov.ng. from 30th October to 10th November, 2023.

The closing date for applications is 10th November, 2023. Late applications will not be considered, so please ensure you submit your application before the specified deadline.
